36 Years
“And We’re Still Here”
We have a 36-year history of producing
two shows a year (See
Roster of Shows), and have recently
celebrated our 35th
anniversary with a gala event
at the Fort Hamilton Community Club.
Jekyll
& Hyde
Our 2006 fall musical production
was Jekyll & Hyde. It was an
artistic and financial success.
This musical enhanced our performer
and audience base. We work with
some of the finest directors in
the industry and this past year
we have worked with musical directors
Elliot Sneider and James Mosser,
and directors such as Dawn Barry
Hansen, John Sheridan and Betty
Kash.
Shhh! Don’t
Wake the Corpse (An Irish Musical
Farce)
Our production for Spring 2007,
another success, was an original
play written by Bay Ridge resident
Betty Kash, who has been an active
theater performer/writer/director
throughout Brooklyn for many years.
She directed several shows at the
Fort including the very successful
Oliver and Gypsy.
Nurturing
Talent
One of the unique aspects of Narrows
Community Theater is its commitment
to nurturing local talent. It gives
community members an outlet to perform,
direct, choreograph, stage manage,
etc., because of its ground-roots
development of our volunteers. We
are very proud of our organic processes
where Brooklyn residents become
part of our family; and in return,
committed and contributing members
of the community.
Workshops
This past August we initiated a
series of workshops held at the
Shore Hill Senior Center and designed
to help our members and the public
enhance their performing arts craftsmanship.
The first workshop (Musical Audition
Workshop) and second workshop (Broadway
Dancing for Non-Dancers) were
a resounding success. In 2007/2008,
we plan to offer Singers’
Workshops, Dramatic Audition Workshops,
A Photographer’s Headshot
Session, more Dancing
for the Non-Dancer’s Workshops,
inaugural “Community Dance”
program and hopefully, a summer
teen program.
Special
Populations Served
Our activities and shows are open
to the public, but a great share
of our audience members are senior
citizens. This provides them with
quality entertainment at a reasonable
rate. Many of our long-time members
are actively involved with our productions,
some of whom have been with NCT
since it’s inception in 1971.
Public
Service Provided
Narrows Community Theater has been
proud to service the public for
36 years by enjoining Bay Ridge
and Brooklyn Residents to become
a part of our family either as a
member, a performer, a back stage
volunteer or general volunteer.
We offer opportunities to learn
stage craft, musical theater performance,
acting technique, dance, team work
and the business of show business
to the public. We have intergenerational
teams of performers, musicians and
volunteers.
